Rimmel Lipstick Lock
As soon as I drink or eat something, the colour of my lipstick fades. It is such a shame when it happens, especially if one goes to the trouble of religiously lining their lips and/or splurging on a beautiful high-end product. I have pale skin and so I love wearing bold colours, particularly red on nights out. A classic red lip can really complete an outfit and it’s a pretty simple go-to look but the question is, will it stay? Half the time when I decide to wear red, I forget it is there. I end up getting it on my hands or clothes. It can be such a mess, so when I came across this product I knew I had to try it!
It is now one of my make up essentials – Rimmel’s ‘Lipstick lock’ priced at €6.99. I discovered this while I was shopping for make-up in Boots with a friend. At first, I had my doubts. Usually these things turn out to be gimmicks that are a waist of time and money but I must admit this one kept its promise. I found it exceptionally great for keeping lip liner in place. Sometimes I like to over-line my lips to give the illusion that they are bigger and this amazing little bottle of wonder kept everything in place.http://www.boots.ie/en/Rimmel-Lipstick-Lock_1113556/
The only thing I would fault this product on is the scent. It has a very potent alcohol smell (imagine holding a bottle of nail polish remover under your nose for a few seconds). When I put this on over my lipstick I tend to take in a deep breath beforehand in order to avoid the fumes. I would also recommend that you avoid licking your lips until it dries.
It’s really simple to apply. Firstly I line my lips with a lip liner. Firstly, I use the Urban Decay red lip liner in the shade ‘. Mrs. Mia Wallace’.
I put the liner all over my lips as I find it creates a base for the lipstick helping it to stay on longer. Then I layer whatever lipstick I decide to use over that. I mostly use a Bobbi Brown lipstick that I got in my Christmas stocking, which is in the colour ‘Sultry Red’. Once applied, I pat it with some tissue.
I also like to prevent lipstick from getting onto my teeth because lets face it, it doesn’t look great in photos and acts as a constant distraction for the person you are talking to!! To do this I simply place my finger in my mouth and pull it out. This gets rid of any lipstick that has crept inside the inner part of my lips.
To apply the lipstick lock I take a deep breath. As I breathe out slowly, I brush it over my lips, making sure I don’t miss anywhere. I kid you not, it seems like you are applying nail varnish to your lips because of the brush applicator but this makes it so easy to apply. Then I wait a while for it to dry in.
Personally, I don’t like applying lip balm before lip products because I’ve always believed it causes them to slide around more. I try to make sure that my lips are always moisturised. If they are dry, I generally apply some after the lipstick lock has dried in. It is also a great way to get that glossy look, and Voila! Perfect lips that won’t slide around!
