Charlotte Olympia LFW 2016
With New York Fashion Week just over and London Fashion Week in full swing, I have been keeping my eyes peeled for my favourite collections. I love looking at all the clothes but I have to say, my favourite part is hunting for the best bags, shoes and accessories after the collections are posted online. In my last post I spoke about the Marc Jacobs bags. They reminded me of the Chesire cat from Alice in Wonderland.
I love to see accessories that veer more towards avant-guard can still be worn in public. Quirky enough to make a statement but not too bold to look out of place. That’s where I like to find the balance. I feel Charlotte Olympia is a brand that always achieves that balance. Her shoes and bags have always been on my wishlist, which is why I had to write about her collection for London Fashion week. Believe it or not, this was actually her first time to showcase her designs at the glamorous event. We can all distinguish her shoes from others by searching for the gold spiderweb on the sole.
The stage and clothes were all black which made her shoes and bags really stand out. We saw her staple island platforms and perspex Pandora boxes. The collection echoed the late David Bowie. From spider cuffs and broaches to perspex Saturn ring bangles, colourful eye makeup and numerous space elements. Fans were reminded of the iconic star.
A number of hats were used, all of various styles and shapes.
The collection was called, ‘The Girl Who Fell To Earth.’ This was stitched onto one of the clutches.
An array of clutches were featured in the show. Ranging from perspex (both clear and coloured) to disc and rocket-shaped.
The designer certainly played with different shapes whilst using cosmic elements to tie in with her overall theme. The items were futuristic yet the hair on the models featured a more 30’s vibe.
She played with heel shapes, which is evident in the following photos.
Glitter was incorporated to create the illusion of a night sky whilst also adding additional bling.
Stars were used on heels and flats and placed against a metallic background.
My favourite shoes were these oxford pumps. I found that they really stood out on the runway. Normally they are a safe brown or black, whereas this pair were daring in colour.
The designer also played with prints, incorporating them into footwear as over-the-knee boots that matched a disc-shaped bag.
I thought that the leopard print look was a little out of place compared to the rest of the collection. However, I felt that the sheer leopard print tights made a statement against a look that I would have considered dull and conservative.
Charlotte Olympia never fails to disappoint. She brings out seasonal collections every year and is renowned for her beautiful kitty flats. Visit her website to check out her latest and most popular products .
I hope you liked my little rant. I can’t wait to see what Paris and Milan Fashion Week have instore for us! Be sure to check out my other posts. Happy Wednesday!! 🙂
