Mother’s Day Tea
I just spent a lovely afternoon with my Mum and Granny. To celebrate Mother’s day, we decided to book afternoon tea in the Blarney Woolen Mills. If you want the true experience of afternoon tea then Blarney is definitely a must.
I love anything old-fashioned when it comes to food. Once the warm weather comes I’ll be getting out the picnic basket so you can understand why I love drinking tea out of fancy cups! It’s also a great excuse to get dolled up! The china that was used was so beautiful. It’s from the brand Royal Albert. They do the most beautiful sets of china.
Everything was pastel with flowers, polka dots and butterflies. The teacups and matching saucers were from the Royal Albert Miranda Kerr collection. I love the Peonies and Butterflies against the blue background the most. The teapot and sugar bowl and milk jug were from their Blue Polka range.
As far as I know I believe you can purchase this china in the Woolen Mills as well. A set like this is always great to own. It’s not exactly something you would have around small children but if you wanted a girly day with family or friends, then having your own china is always a good start.
We didn’t go for the traditional tea, instead we opted for a pot of peppermint tea. I was absolutely delighted when I saw that the tea bags were Java republic. If you read my post about Griffin’s Café then you’ll know that Java republic tea is one of my favourites!!
The presentation of the food was amazing. Everything was displayed on two three-tier cake stands. The bottom tier was filled with sandwiches and mini bagels. The top tier had scones and carrot cake and the middle tier had an array of little tasty treats.
The sandwiches were so cute! Look at the mini bagels! I know I’m not a lover of smoked salmon and cream cheese but have you ever seen a bagel as small a this one. The food may have been small but don’t be fooled by appearance. Everything was so filling yet so delicious.
I wasn’t a lover of the coffee cake though but I don’t really like coffee cake anyway so that was inevitable.
The chicken and pesto sandwiches were my favourite and the scones were so light and fluffy.
I was delighted to see macaroons on the plate. One can never go wrong with them. We got pistachio and vanilla ones. Pistachio macaroons are my favourite type of biscuit, if you’d call them that.
We got free refills on the tea too. Usually you’d think that that is expected, although I’ve heard some places charge for a new pot of hot water.

We decided to have a look around the shop too. Mum picked up a dress and gran picked up a blouse and cardigan. I saw this gorgeous scarf that reminded me of Burberry. It was only €35 compared to around €450 for a real Burberry scarf. I just love the pattern. I know I will get great wear out of this. The scarf is made in Ireland and is 100% extra fine merino wool. It also says to dry clean it only. They have some lovely bits in the shop at the moment as well as some interesting pieces of jewellery.
I’d really recommend spending a day out there. The afternoon tea was €20 per person. They recommend that you book in advance. For more information visit their website. Here’s the menu:
It was such a lovely experience and perfect for this weekend. So if you do plan on visiting let me know and while you’re there, check out the shop too. You might pick up something nice like I did.
Happy Mother’s Day! xo
