The Ultimate Autumn Staple – The Coat

Autumn is officially upon us. The weather is getting colder so it’s time to prepare for those chilly days with this season’s ultimate staple – the coat.

 Unfortunately, as fast fashion is taking over, garments are mass-produced at a cheaper price. Vintage items are generally better quality. With this in mind I headed to one of my favourite vintage shops – Miss Daisy Blue.

I wanted a piece that would go with most items in my wardrobe and that reflected my aesthetic. Red is my favourite colour so I was instantly drawn by the vibrant shade.

I also fell in love with the gold buttons against the richness of the dyed wool. This beautiful Italian coat is 100% virgin wool.

 I think it’s important to have key seasonal pieces that essentially become a basic for that time period. Usually basics are considered to be quite minimal, particularly in terms of colour. They’re either black or brown. I like to play with colour so I opted for a vibrant shade. The coat finishes around the knees and is easily layered.
